At the age of 5, my parents helped me navigate the bumps for the first time on Pineault at Camp Fortune in the Gatineau Hills. My passion for skiing really took off once we arrived at Ski Vorlage, the birthplace of my mother's skiing legacy. Snowy days, to long nights under the stars, it was here that I got the itch for skiing and the excitement that came along with it. After several seasons, eventually skiing every resort in the area, I became obsessed with the sport. Over the years, with family and friends, I began to explore more ski mountains, farther from home, discovering many unique, exciting and breathtaking resorts. What makes me excited? Is it the amazing views from the mountain tops, the high speed thrill of carving up the slopes, or a technical curiosity of the ski lifts... one thing is for sure, it's definitely the best way to enjoy the best season of the year, and one amazing life long passion.

Hiking - Luskville Falls Trail - Gatineau Park

The Luskville Falls are located about 30 minutes from downtown Gatineau. With easy access by car, simply take Boulevard des Allumetières, until it turns into route 148 and follow that. After about 15-20 minutes, the road will switch into a divided highway, and the exit will be one of the first gravel roads to the right shortly after. Follow the road and turn left and you will arrive at the falls trail. The area is peaceful yet quite busy with visitors, as the trail is fairly popular to hike. A bit of forewarning, the trail is fairly steep, but nothing too challenging. Good footwear is recommended as most of the path is on rocks of various sizes and shapes.Beginning the trail from the parking lot, you head slightly downwards, then begin your ascent. The full hike up is approximately 300+ vertical metres. As you hike, the path follows a rocky path, almost in the form of stairs. Not long after the beginning, you see the base of the majestic falls up close. The flow of the water ...

It’s a wrap! Last weekend of skiing at Mont-Sainte-Anne

With only two days left of its 2016-2017 season, Mont-Sainte-Anne shares its results and highlights of the winter. The resort will still be operating on the last weekend of April for the best of spring skiing: sun, warm temperatures, great snow conditions and a unique and festive atmosphere. Best season over the last 3 years Both Stoneham Mountain Resort and Mont-Sainte-Anne can declare this season the best they have had over the last three years! The main cause for these great results is an increase in the day-tickets sales, reaching 15%. Quebec region has received the largest amount of snow in the province this winter, and this context has brought a lot of day visitors and tourists from outside of the region. Historic season opening The first day of skiing happened only in December, but it will certainly be remembered for years to come because of the abundance of fresh powder! Mont-Sainte-Anne was able to open with 37 trails on the very first day, including most of the expert side of...

Magnum at Mont Orford, last weekend (now closed) - Photo by Paul Giddings.

Another great spring skiing weekend is upon us. With the milder weather and the sun coming back out in full force, the skiing is expected to be unforgettable. Last weekend saw the season end at many mountains. Of notable surprise is Mont SUTTON who announced their closure earlier this week. While many who were present the previous weekend seemed to feel they were still good for another weekend, it was sadly not meant to be. The take away from this is that the weather and snow become so volatile at this time of year that mountains can only sustain the snow for so long before they have to call it quits. Click here for the list of mountains still open for skiing in Quebec and New England. Sommet Saint-Sauveur is now the only mountain open in eastern Quebec with the closure of SUTTON. The rest are located in the Quebec City region and moving west from there. For those near Ottawa and Montreal and the Eastern Townships, the mountains in New England present good options to Sommet Saint-...

A memorable 2016-2017 season on so many levels at Mont SUTTON

The 2016-2017 season ended last weekend at Mont SUTTON. The season ended with a lot of skiers and snow in attendance. It was a successful year in customer traffic, natural and artificial snow, many activities and a freak snow storm! A really good season The new owners are ending the season on a good note. A year comparable to some of the best, and totally unlike last year. The heavy snowfalls, including the amazing one where a meter of snow fell in 24h, brought happiness to all skiers and boarders alike. One remarkable fact this year: if the snow was there, skiers were also there, more so than in past snow storms. What's more, the Friday pass and the Little pass hit a record high this year. An investment that is worth it Half a million dollars was invested in the beginning of the season in the snowmaking system. "We saw a genuine difference with the new snow guns, says Luc Boulanger, Director of Operations at Mont SUTTON. They are more efficient, it allowed us to start the season off ...

Bromont, montagne d'expériences : satisfying 2016-2017 season marked by surprises in the weather

Easter weekend marked the end of ski season at Bromont, montagne d'expériences. Clients and employees were grateful for the surprising and unpredictable, yet highly satisfying winter on the slopes. Mother Nature was erratic and whimsical, subjecting us to rain and ice, but then treating us to not one, but two magnificent snowstorms. Memorable snowfalls With the early arrival of snow, we were off to a terrific start at the beginning of the season, with over 25 cm by the third week of November. The next snowfall in mid-December helped us completely forget last winter's woes, until the weather started acting up again with episodes of rain and ice during the critical holiday and spring break periods. But the two exceptional snowstorms that followed made up for everything. The first occurred in mid-February with over 60 cm falling in 72 hours followed, one month later, by a second historic storm with some 95 cm of snow in only 48 hours, ending the season on an awesome note. "The season took...

April 8-9, 2017

With another weekend of classic spring skiing upon us, let's take a look at what one can expect. While many regions, notably Ottawa/Gatineau and Montreal, received 50+mm of rain over the past few days, some mountains did receive some fresh snow rather than full on rain. The situation is even better around Quebec City were mountains there received 10-20cm of fresh snow instead. For those that received alot of rain, they were proactive by closing during the week to preserve the ski conditions for the weekend. With expert grooming, the trails should be in great shape for the weekend as the sun comes out and softens out the snow. However you look at it, the poor weather will come to an end overnight, setting us up for some more great spring skiing for the weekend. Last weekend saw several closures but there are still plenty of mountains operating. As always, it is recommended to check your favourite mountain's website or to call ahead to confirm opening hours and lift ticket prices, as man...
