Killington Resort opens for the season Friday, November 5, 2021

Vermont's Killington Resort, the largest ski and snowboard destination in Eastern North America, and part of POWDR, will kick off the 2021-22 winter season at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 5, 2021, becoming the first Eastern resort to open for skiing and snowboarding.

The first turns of the season, on Friday, November 5, will be reserved exclusively for Season Pass, Express Card, Beast 365 and Ikon pass holders. The resort will open to the general public on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.

"We are excited to welcome skiers and riders back to the Green Mountains, and to kick off the longest season in the East," says Mike Solimano, president and general manager of Killington Resort and Pico Mountain. "Last year was a season of change, and while we are not out of the woods yet, we are happy to be starting the season without many of the adaptations the Covid-19 pandemic demanded this time last year."

On Friday, November 5, 2021, the K-1 Express Gondola will provide uploading for eligible guests to open terrain for skiers and snowboarders from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and the North Ridge Quad lift will allow uploading until 3:45 p.m. Skiers and snowboarders will use the Peak Walkway to access open terrain and return to the K-1 Express Gondola for the trip down to the base area through 4:00 p.m. Open terrain will be for intermediate and advanced skiers and riders only, providing roughly 600 vertical feet of open trails. No beginner terrain is available at this time. Early season conditions exist and snowmaking and other on-mountain operations may be in progress throughout the day on open terrain.

Policies regarding Covid-19 will be different than those in place last season. Mask use is not required in lift lines, in the gondola or on lifts, and lifts will be loaded to full capacity with mixed groups. Masks are still recommended for all guests while indoors. Ticket windows and kiosks at the K-1 Lodge will be open from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. for RFID pass pick up and pass purchases. Express Card holders will only be charged $49 for all ages on Opening Day, and children ages 6 and under will receive a Kids Ski Free ticket if accompanied by a season pass holder. No other passes, tickets, vouchers, or reciprocal discounts will be accepted on Friday. Beginning Saturday, daily lift tickets purchased same day will be $79 for adults (ages 19-64), $59 for youth (ages 7-18) and $67 for seniors (ages 65-79) with discounted lift ticket rates available for advance purchases. Rental equipment will be available at the K-1 Lodge.

Remaining a longstanding tradition, season pass holders are invited to enjoy free lunch on Opening Day at the K-1 Café, Peak Lodge, or the Subie Shack located at the bottom of the North Ridge Quad as a show of gratitude for their commitment to Killington Resort. Opening Day skiers and riders will also receive Day One swag, and Subaru owners who show their car keys at the Subie Shack will receive some sweet Subaru swag (while supplies last).

Killington's Woodward Mountain Park is planning to debut a pop up park on Reason Friday morning. Stay tuned to the conditions page at killington.com/conditions for updates. In between throwing down tricks, guests can grab a free burrito, courtesy of Mountain Dew, at the pop up park on Saturday. The early season park is the first terrain park to open east of the Rockies each season. The Woodward Mountain Park crew will expand park offerings across the mountain as the season progresses and terrain is expanded.

The HomeLight Killington Cup, a stop on the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Tour, is just weeks away from returning to the Green Mountains. Taking place Thanksgiving weekend, November 27 & 28, the fastest female ski racers in Slalom and Giant Slalom will compete for the top prize on Killington's signature Superstar trail, along with a weekend of festivities, live music, and more. Both general admission spectator tickets and Grandstand tickets are available, which offer unparalleled access to the best viewing locations. Killington's priority is to protect the wellbeing of spectators, athletes and staff for the duration of the HomeLight Killington Cup. Actions being taken to prioritize the wellbeing of the community include ticketing the entire event, including General Admission, to control attendance and requiring proof of vaccine or negative Covid-19 test within 72-hours from attendees.
