Killington Resort to Begin Winter Season Tuesday October 25, 2016

Killington Resort, the largest four-season resort in Eastern North America, is scheduled to kick off its 2016-17 winter season at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25, becoming the first Eastern resort to open for skiing and snowboarding. The first turns of the season will be dedicated exclusively to Season Pass and Express Card holders, and the resort will open to the general public on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Killington's operating schedule for the remainder of the week will be updated in real time at www.killington.com/conditions. ​Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort will be the first resort in Canada to open its doors to ski and snowboard enthusiasts on Thursday, November 3, 2016. This is Sunshine's earliest opening in over 30 years. The resort will open with four Chairlifts including Wawa, Strawberry, Jackrabbit and Wolverine, one magic carpet and one 8-passenger gondola. With a current base of over 69 cm (27 in) of all-natural snow, Sunshine Village is poised for a solid start to the 2016-2017 season. Mont SUTTON is aiming for an official opening on December 10 thanks to the current conditions and the forecast for the upcoming days. The arrival of a sustained cold snap foreseen this Sunday should be ideal for starting the snow guns. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but this weather looks promising for the near future, presaging an opening for mid-December for the greatest pleasure of skiers and snowboarders. Sugarloaf to kick off 66th season on Thanksgiving


After the return of some more wintery weather last night, and resuming snowmaking operations this morning, Sugarloaf officials announced that Maine's tallest winter resort will kick off its 66th season on Thursday, November 24 at 8:30am. Skiing and riding on opening day will be available on Tote Road and Candyside, serviced by the SuperQuad, and is recommended for advanced skiers and riders only. Despite above-normal temperatures for much of November, Sugarloaf's snowmakers were able to run as many as 120 snowguns earlier in the month, stock piling snow at higher elevations. The resort is currently running more than 125 guns on the Tote Road trail. "At this time of the year, we are always at the mercy of Mother Nature," said Rich Wilkinson, Sugarloaf's Vice President of Mountain Operations. Holiday Valley Opens for the 2016-17 Season

With 12+ inches of natural snow and a good snowmaking run that began yesterday, Holiday Valley's President and General Manager, Dennis Eshbaugh announced plans to open for their 60th season of skiing and snowboarding on Saturday, November 26th. According to Eshbaugh, "This is an exciting time of year and we're pleased to get an early start on the season". Weather permitting, the resort plans to have three lifts operating from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.: the Yodeler Quad Chairlift, Mardi Gras Xpress Quad Chairlift and School Haus Quad Chairlift. Four slopes will be open that range from easier to most difficult: School Haus, the Candy Cane loop, Mardi Gras and Yodeler. Thanks to a mix of natural and manmade snow, Sunday River Resort will open for skiing and snowboarding tomorrow, Wednesday, November 23, 2016. New this year, the resort will offer top-to-bottom skiing and snowboarding on its Aurora Peak with trails including Northern Lights, Paradigm, Borealis, Aludra, and Lights Out. All opening day terrain is for advanced skiers and snowboards only; snowguns are scheduled to run with active snowmaking as long as temperatures allow. At 8:30 am, 4 trails resulting in one upper-mountain run on each the North and the South sides will be open to skiers and riders, served by the Express Gondola, TGV, Lowell Thomas and Cabriolet lifts. Skiers and snowboaders will have to use the gondola to get to the summit and back at the South base. $110 Million Bear Mountain Revitalization Project Planned for Summer 2018 at Vermont’s Killington Resort


Vermont's Killington Resort, the largest ski and snowboard destination in Eastern North America, has partnered with Killington, Vermont-based Ottauquechee Realty Advisors, LLC to revitalize the resort's Bear Mountain base area and South Ridge through a two year development plan. Total project costs for the Bear Mountain Revitalization Plan are estimated at $60-70 million with a resulting retail value of $110 million once construction is complete. Phase 1 of the Bear Mountain Revitalization Plan, called "Base Camp at Bear Mountain" is expected to begin in summer 2018 with the construction of 6-7 multi-family buildings estimated to cost $45 million, plus a major remodeling of Bear Mountain Base Lodge (keeping the original footprint), the installation of a fixed grip quad chair lift on Killington's South Ridge, and on-mountain improvements for skier flow including bridge and tunnel work. ​The 2016-2017 season ended last weekend at Mont SUTTON. The season ended with a lot of skiers and snow in attendance. It was a successful year in customer traffic, natural and artificial snow, many activities and a freak snow storm! A really good season The new owners are ending the season on a good note. A year comparable to some of the best, and totally unlike last year. The heavy snowfalls, including the amazing one where a meter of snow fell in 24h, brought happiness to all skiers and boarders alike. One remarkable fact this year: if the snow was there, skiers were also there, more so than in past snow storms. What's more, the Friday pass and the Little pass hit a record high this year. Sunday River Resort to Begin Installation of New Spruce Peak Triple Chairlift Next Month

Sunday River Resort announced that it will break ground on a new Spruce Peak Triple chairlift next month. Manufactured by Doppelmayr USA, Inc., this new $2.1 million dollar, three-passenger fixed grip chairlift will be built in the same location as the resort's original Spruce Peak Triple chairlift, and will utilize a conveyor system to help load passengers onto each chair. Estimated construction timeline for the new chairlift is six months to coincide with the resort's 2017/18 winter season. Spanning 4,184 feet, the new Spruce Peak Triple will rise 1,207 vertical feet from the base of the resort's Spruce Peak to the summit. One hundred and forty-five chairs will carry up to 1,480 guests per hour at a rate of 500 feet per minute.
